This term summarizes all clinical and pathological conditions which are caused by ischemia or even total interruption of coronary blood flow due to coronary artery occlusion. It may affect the larger epicardial parts of the coronary arteries as well as the small arteries and arterioles. The leading cause for coronary heart disease is the process of arteriosclerosis of the vessel wall as well as coronary arterial thrombosis.
