Stable Angina Pectoris

Usually the development of coronary artery disease goes undetected until about 50 % of the luminal diameter is occluded by a coronary plug. In case of a significant reduction in coronary flow reserve caused by coronary arterial narrowing intermittent ischemia will occure mainly during periods of physical exertion and will again disappear at rest. Whether the patient remains relatively stable at this stage of the disease or shows rapid progression towards unstable angina or acute myocardial infarction is mainly depending on the velocity of progression of the pathological process in the coronary arterial wall.
