This NYHA stage is characterized by normal systolic function into high exercise ranges, where diastolic dysfunction develops, resulting in the commonest clinical symptom of this NYHA stage, exercise dyspnea. Radiography thus (also) reveals a normally sized heart with a normal pattern of pulmonary vessels during rest.
