PAD can be diagnosed or excluded by means of a targeted case history, physical examination, pulse palpation and auscultation. Only asymptomatic PAD, which by definition corresponds to stage I, cannot be diagnosed from the case history alone.
If the history reveals no indicators for arterial occlusive disease further angiological examinations are unnecessary.
