The doppler-sonographic pressure measurement as a simple technical procedure is a basic, screening examination for PAD. A previous significant blood-steam blockage (high-level stenosis or occlusion) can be recognized and hemo-dynamic compensation, circulation (pressure) reserve as well as medial calcification can be assessed. With the help of a blood-pressure band and a doppler probe, the blood pressure is taken on the upper (radial artery) and on the lower (posterior tibial artery, dorsalis pedis artery) extremity. Usually, the blood pressure of the lower extremity is higher than that of the upper part.
